Review

Many were curious about how Shankar would fill the 28-year gap between the first and the sequel when it was revealed, particularly about Senapathi’s portrayal as an elderly man. The audience was satisfied as Shankar deftly made the connections and accurately portrayed Senapathi as a 106-year-old man.

With his typical expressions, Kamal Haasan entertains us in his portrayal. Siddharth gives a commendable performance, especially in the poignant parts.

When Samuthirakani has little screen time, he does admirably. Bobby Simha and the others perform admirably in their parts.

Although Shankar’s idea to return Senapathi to a contemporary, developed, but corrupted India is intriguing, it is not well executed. Notably absent is the anticipated emotional drama, which is a feature of Shankar’s films.

Many parts of the screenplay, especially the second half, are weak. Emotional scenes may have been worded better and lack depth.

In this sequel, Rakul Preet Singh, Priya Bhavani Shankar, SJ Suryah, and other actors play little parts and don’t make much of an impression. In the upcoming installment, their presence may be more noticeable.

The music is a major letdown, as it had the potential to elevate numerous sequences. Many of Anirudh’s moments seem uninteresting due to his poor performance.

Conclusion

Bharateeyudu 2 is a plodding yet ok movie overall. It contains a few shortcomings in comparison to the original, suggesting Shankar fell short. Kamal Haasan’s performance is passable, whereas Siddharth gives a good performance. But there are also serious issues with the screenplay’s poor pacing, lack of emotional depth, and terrible score. If you decide to watch it anyhow, don’t anticipate too much.
