Ponniyin Selvan 2 Movie in iBomma. Ponniyin Selvan, a five-part novel series by Kalki Krishnamurthy, is transformed into a two-part film with the same name by unconventional director Mani Ratnam. Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Jayaram, Sarath Kumar, and Vikram Prabhu are among the outstanding actors in the movie. While the first section had a mixed response in Telugu, let’s explore the second section to find out.
Short Story
Madhurantaka Chola (Rahman) wants to take over the reigns of Chola dynasty against his parents will. Pedda Paluvettaraiya along with Samanta kings conspire against Aditya Karikala (Vikram) to dethrone him and grab the Chola dynasty. Aditya is in shock of Arun Moli aka Ponniyin Selvan’s feared death in sea tragedy. Huge relief comes with the safe return of Arun Moli. Spy Vallavaraya (Karthi) plays a crucial role in this. But Aditya vows to take revenge against the people behind the conspiracy against Arun Moli.
Pandyas devise a strategy to overthrow the Chola Kings, Arun Moli alias Ponniyin Selvan (Jayam Ravi), Aditya Karikala (Vikram), and Sundar Chola (Prakash Raj), with the aid of Paluvur Queen Nandini (Aishwarya Rai). Since Nandini was formerly Aditya’s sweetheart, he was unable to decline her invitation to Kadambur. Aditya Karikala travels to Kadambur, where he dies, despite being aware that Nandini plotted to prevent his murder. The entire plot revolves around Arun Moli and Vallavaraya’s (Karthi) victory over their adversaries and maintenance of the Chola kingdom.
Profermence
The entire cast of Ponniyin Selvan 2 turns up outstanding performances. The best performances come from Vikram and Karthi as Aditya Karikala and Vallavaraya. While Karthi’s position also has ups and downs, Vikram exhibits a wide range of emotions, including love, grief, and wrath. Although he has a humorous side, his words and deeds have meaning and purpose. His character development from King loyalist to suspect in the King’s murder is good. In the lead role of Ponniyin Selvan, Jayam Ravi does alright. He plays the central role in the narrative.
Aishwarya Rai fulfils the charm and high expectations that people have of her. She does a good job bringing out the bad aspects of her character Nandini. She is portrayed in two roles. Aishwarya also portrays Nandini’s mother, Mandakini, who is an elderly and verbally handicapped woman. She is excellent in both positions.
As Princess Vanathi, Prince Arun Moli’s love interest, Sobhitha Dhulipala does great. She has very little room for improvement, though. Although her role as Poongulali is brief, Aishwarya Lekshmi fulfils expectations.
Parthi Sarathkumar is transformed by Vikram Prabhu into Pedda Paluvettaraiya, who has a significant part, and he performs a respectable job. In this extensive narrative, Parthiban as Chinna Paluvettaraiya is marginalised. As patriarch Sundara Chola, Prakash Raj maintains his signature flair while still having an effect.
As spy Nambi, Jayaram excels in all of his scenes and many outfits. Ashwin Kakumanu as Senthan barely has a few moments with his love interest Poongulali (Aishwarya Lekshmi), whereas Rahman as Madhurantaka is adequate. Ponniyin Selvan 2 has great performers who delivered performances deserving of admiration.

Review
Ponniyin Selvan is an epic whose story is well-known in the public domain and came out as a five-part novel. When it is being adapted on to the big screen, it naturally has its advantages and mammoth challenges for director Mani Ratnam. The whole story of Ponniyin Selvan happens between 3 forts – Thanjavur fort, Kadambur fort and Palayarai fort. But to understand and enjoy Mani Ratnam’s PS 2 on the big screen, one must be aware of the story and its characters prior. For those who already know or read the Ponniyin Selvan novel, the film narration is like a cakewalk. For the unknown, it is indeed challenging.
Aditya Karikala and Nandini’s early adventures form the basis of Ponniyin Selvan 2 as the movie opens. Aditya and Nandini’s love story, which is revealed in the second part of the movie, is very important. There is a strong relationship between the events and Nandini’s identity as well as who her father is. It does a good job of explaining why Nandini is enslaved by the Pandyas and why she wants to get revenge on the Cholas.
Herculean difficulties must be overcome in order to manage the people, drama, and underlying emotions. Here, a seasoned director like Mani strove to keep his tale telling as straightforward as possible. He played it more on drama and emotion than on action, preferring to do so.
The climactic scene and pre-interval segment are both well-made. The heart of the movie is found in the exchanges between Vikram and Aishwarya Rai. Vikram addresses Pedda Paluvettaraiya and his Queen Nandini in a scene. Aishwarya’s facial expressions require extra attention. In this entire epic, Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, and Karthi all shine. Karthi comes away with accolades. Tanikella Bharani writes good dialogue. Karthi’s humorous one-liners make people laugh even under dire circumstances.
Ponniyin Selvan’s sluggish storytelling is what irritates me. Although the movie is long, it is honest. The movie retains its heart. Mani Ratnam undoubtedly used considerable artistic licence in order to tell such a long story within the confines of the film’s running time. Because of the story’s familiarity, it also suffers from predictability in several places. But Mani Ratnam was able to keep viewers interested in how it transpired throughout the film. The director and his crew succeeded here. He has the technicians’ full backing. The two foundations of PS 2 are the background soundtrack by AR Rahman and the camerawork by Ravi Varman.
