Review
For those who have already seen Taare Zameen Par, the plot of Sitaare Zameen Par might not seem all that different. But the feelings in SZP are very different. The idea that young people with Down syndrome and other intellectual disabilities may succeed if they put their minds to it is masterfully shown in the movie.
The first half’s plot moves quickly, captivatingly, and maintains the audience’s interest. The filmmaker does appear to have lost concentration a few times in the second half, though. It does a good job of illustrating the problems Gulshan has coaching the young basketball team with intellectual disabilities.
As a coach who is committed to seeing his “unusual” squad win, Aamir Khan gives an incredible performance.
Fans of the prequel may feel that Sitaare Zameen Par falls short after seeing Taare Zameen Par’s critical and financial success. Even though it contains poignant material, the sequel doesn’t have an impact on viewers.
Even though Sitaare Zameen Par and other such films don’t have to be entertainment-focused, they shouldn’t overlook the emotional impact. The backstories of several of the characters in SZP are handled far too casually.
Furthermore, the viewer doesn’t relate to Gulshan’s interactions with a young team that is struggling with learning disabilities. Only in the conclusion, when it could be too late to win over the viewers, does the coach and his squad form a relationship.
Conclusion
Overall, Sitaare Zameen Par’s powerful emotional drama and superb performances are enough to appeal to a specialized audience. You may feel a little let down, though, if you were hoping for a movie that was on par with Taare Zameen Par. At several points, the movie slows down, which can turn off viewers. Sitaare Zameen Par, on the other hand, is probably going to be a pleasant emotional experience for those who see it without any preconceived notions.
